New Clothes

So that in him we might
become the righteousness of God.
           —2 Corinthians 5:21

God enters the Garden and asks Adam and Eve two questions …

“Where are you?” They’re hiding; ashamed and afraid.

“What is this you have done?” The one thing God told them not to do is what they did: filched an apple from the only tree that was off-limits.

They’re banished from the Garden. But before they go God clothes them. They can’t undo what they’ve done, but they can start over in new clothes.

You’ve sinned. You can’t undo it. But you get to start over in new clothes. “When you were baptized, it was as though you had put on Christ in the same way you put on new clothes” (Gal. 3:27 CEV).

Dressed in his righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne
