Winning Turned Upside Down

Whoever loses his life for me will find it.
                   —Matthew 16:25

Legendary coach Vince Lombardi said, “Winning isn’t everything—it’s the only thing!”

That’s pretty much the way the world sees things.

Jesus turned that view upside down.

Winners aren’t the rich, famous, and powerful.

Winners are the poor in spirit, the grieving, the humble, the hungry and thirsty, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and the persecuted (Matt. 5:3-10).

What the world calls the biggest losers Jesus calls the biggest winners.

The rich are poor; the poor are rich (Lk. 16:19-31).
The last are first; the first are last (Mk. 10:31).
The slaves are free; the free are slaves (1 Cor. 7:22)

Grief becomes joy (Jn. 16:20).
Weakness becomes strength (2 Cor. 12:10).
Death becomes life (Jn. 11:25-26).

sitting in the front when the trip ends.
