You’re Important to Somebody

[L]et your light shine.
   —Matthew 5:16

Melissa O’Connor was giving her grade schoolers in Sunrise, Florida, instructions for a writing assignment: “write about a person you admire, someone who is important to you—like moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas.”

As they began writing, the kid who was Melissa’s biggest challenge, raised his hand. She walked to his desk with apprehension. He asked, “Can I write about you?”

I think Melissa is still crying.

We don’t have a choice when it comes to having an impact on those around us, but we do have a choice about what kind of impact. You don’t know when or who—but don’t let your guard down because you’re a transformative influence in someone’s life.

Your influence hits a target no one else can hit.
