The Great Physician

He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.
              —Psalm 147:3

You try to convince yourself that what brought you to the physician’s waiting room isn’t serious—all the while thinking it may be.

Stripped of your bravado, most of your clothes, and all of your dignity, you wait. In no other place do you feel so vulnerable.

When the doctor steps in, asks questions, and checks vital signs, you hang on to every word and watch every facial expression. He knows what he’s doing—you hope.

Jesus is a healer. He is referred to as a physician—a suggestive and comforting image. He knows what he’s doing—knows what’s wrong and how to fix it.

The Great Physician has never
lost a compliant patient.
