Six-Word Biographies

You are the light of the world.
              —Matthew 5:14

When Ernest Hemingway was asked if he could write a compelling story in six words, he said he could. He wrote: “For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn.”

Haunting. It’s painful to imagine the details.

I began looking for six-word descriptions of people in the Bible. Here’s some of what I found.

Noah: “Noah was a righteous man, blameless.”

Abraham: “And Abraham was called God’s friend.”

David: “A man after my own heart.”

Zechariah and Elizabeth: “They were both righteous before God.”

Paul: “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ.”

Judas: “He went away and hanged himself.”

Can you think of six words that would describe you?

If Jesus spoke six words about you, they might be: “I gave my life for you.” Followed by: “I love you. You are mine.”

Self-examination:
not easy, but profitable.
