Do you see this woman?
—Luke 7:44
As Jesus reclined at the table in the house of Simon the Pharisee, the tears of a woman of soiled reputation fell on his feet. She dried them with her hair and anointed his feet from a flask of perfume.
The host viewed the scene with judgmental disgust.
Knowing his thoughts, Jesus asked him, “Do you see this woman?” He did—but he didn’t. He could not see her as she then was, for looking at her as she had been.
Here’s a challenge for you. Today consider every person you encounter and every person you think of, not in terms of what they have been, but in terms of what they can become by the grace of God and the transforming power of Christ.
Don’t see people as they have been,
but as they can be.
