Request but Don’t Demand

Do not test the Lord your God.
             —Matthew 4:7

We should never approach prayer with the attitude that we are wise enough to tell God how to run the world.

Prayer should be a request, not a demand. Requests may or may not be granted. A flawless God lovingly listens to the requests of flawed humans. In his infinite wisdom, he will sometimes grant and sometimes deny them.

In Gethsemane, the holiest of all petitioners prayed three times to be delivered from approaching agony. His request was denied—and aren’t you grateful that it was?

When Satan challenged Jesus to challenge God, Jesus replied, “Do not test the Lord your God.”

Some of your requests will be granted. Some won’t be. Request but don’t demand. “Your will be done” is of prime importance.

God knows best. Don’t put him to the test.
