Be Captive or Take Captive

Take captive every thought
to make it obedient to Christ.
     —2 Corinthians 10:5

Alistair Begg said the emotions of bitterness, resentment, and self-pity are “silent killers” that will “slowly strangle our faith and spill over into malice.”

Paul told the Ephesians to “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger . . . along with every form of malice” (Eph 4:31).

You won’t get rid of something bad unless you put something good in its place. So, here’s a suggestion: think of one thing that gives you joy and for which you are thankful. Keep that thought in your pocket, and every time you have one of those negative emotions, send it packing by quoting your pocket positive.

Paul said, “We take captive every thought.”

You will either BE captive of your thoughts or TAKE captive your thoughts: one or the other.

Control your thoughts.
Don’t be controlled by them.
