A Holy Habit

One of [Jesus’] disciples said to him,
‘Lord, teach us to pray.’
          —Luke 11:1

I attend a church that persistently urges each member to read their Bible every day; a wonderful emphasis. After all, God speaks to us through his Word.

Nor is it a one-way conversation. God speaks to us through his Word and gives us the privilege of speaking to him through prayer.

Scripture provides snapshots of Jesus’ prayer life, giving the impression that he regularly prayed in the early morning hours, seeking a quiet and solitary place where he could hear his Father’s voice over the noise of the crowds that would soon monopolize him.

In our busy lives, there may be nothing more challenging to maintain than spending time in prayer every day. We must be resolute in treating prayer as a holy habit, not as an optional add-on.

He is your best friend. Talk to him.
