Just My Luck

Give thanks in all circumstances.
          —1 Thessalonians 5:18

“It would be just my luck if . . .”

Have you ever heard anyone start a sentence with those seven words and end it with something positive?

Not likely. It usually ends with something negative.

Really, is the deck stacked against us when we have only one house, two cars, three meals a day, and clothes for four seasons?

Next time you start to grouse about your lousy luck, back off and consider these words: “Be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’” (Heb 13:5).

“Godliness with contentment is great gain . . . if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that” (1 Tm 6:6, 8).

“Be joyful always . . . give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thes 5:16, 18).

Growl all day and you’ll be dog-tired tonight.
