Happy is the person whose sins are forgiven
—Psalms 32:1 NCV
What would it take to make you happy?
A major obstacle to happiness is that we live in a world that promises it based on things that can’t produce it: people, places, and possessions.
Happiness that’s dependent on these trappings is easily shattered and has a short shelf life. People, places, and possessions can’t bear the weight of being the supreme source of joy.
The ultimate source of happiness is a comfortable relationship with God. And that begins with his forgiveness: “What happiness for those whose guilt has been forgiven! What joys when sins are covered over!” (Ps 32:1 TLB).
When you know that God has put all your sins behind his back and has cast them into the depths of the sea (Is 38:17; Micah 7:19), you have the gift of consummate joy.
God’s forgiveness is your greatest gift.
