Do not forget the Lord your God.

Bill Gunn was wealthy. And generous. Every year, he came to my office in the last week of December to inquire about the status of the church budget. If there was a deficit, he wrote a check to eliminate it. When I attempted to thank him, he stopped me, saying, “I believe Deuteronomy 8:18.” The verse says, “Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”
Forgetting to remember is a deadly spiritual virus.
Moses warned that prosperity often fosters forgetfulness. “Praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God . . . when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses . . . you will forget the Lord your God” (Dt 8:10–14).
It’s spiritual suicide to forget to remember.
