Pray without ceasing.
—1 Thessalonians 5:17
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (Mt 7:7).
Ask
Asking implies a consciousness of need: the petition of an inferior to a superior; according to his will (1 Jn 5:14). Therefore, a request, not a demand.
Seek
Seeking is asking plus acting, implying participation in bringing about the requested blessing.
Knock
Knocking is asking, plus seeking, plus persevering. Pray, seek, and don’t give up (Lk 18:1).
Ask, Seek, and Knock result in response: it will be given, it will be found, and the door will be opened.
Ask, Seek, and Knock aren’t one-and-done. The Greek tense is present imperative: keep on asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking.
Leave nothing on the table. Claim the promises.
Avoid the quicksand of quitting.
