Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
—Psalm 119:105
In Allen Isbell’s weekly blog to his congregation, he always ends: Come to Church; Bring your Bible.
Only in the last few centuries has a minister been able to say to the assembly, “Please turn in your Bible to . . .”
Prior to the printing press, the Bible was unavailable to the public, nor could most people have read it if they’d had it.
1455: Gutenberg invented the printing press. The first book ever printed was the Bible in Latin.
1525: William Tyndale’s New Testament was the first to be printed in English.
1535: Myles Coverdale’s Bible was the first complete Bible to be printed in English.
1609: The first printing of the King James Bible.
Thank God that you have easy and inexpensive access to God’s Word.
Treasure it. Read it. Live it.
