Love does not demand its own way.
—1 Corinthians 13:5 NLT
I was in a meeting with the church elders: men who were big enough to disagree and debate but mature enough to unanimously support majority decisions (which is the only path to peace, harmony, and unity).
The matter being discussed was a hot potato: a non-budgeted item. Involvement would require substantial financial commitment. Some were strongly for it, some strongly against it.
The most vociferous objector was a dyed-in-the-wool fiscal conservative. His position was vigorous opposition: “C’mon guys, do the math!”
After all the men had had their say, the vote was called, and the “yeas” prevailed.
I watched with admiration as the defeated brother took out his checkbook and made the first donation to fund the project.
“The wisdom that is from above is first pure, the peaceable, gentle, willing to yield” (Jas 3:17).
You win some and lose some.
In both, be humble and gracious.
