Think Before You Boast

Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.
                      —1 Corinthians 1:31

The Bible does not denigrate the pursuit of education, physical attractiveness, and financial achievement.

It does, however, caution against boasting about intellectual superiority, flaunting of curves and abs, and measuring worth by financial accumulation.

“Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord” (Jer 9:23–24).

It is delusional to think that an educated mind, sculpted body, or fat portfolio is justification for boasting. God’s delight is in “love, justice, and righteousness.”

Self-promotion is offensive.
