For everything there is a season,
and a time for every matter under heaven.
—Ecclesiastes 3:1
The first eight verses of Ecclesiastes 3 detail the cycles of life, with fourteen statements of contrast that perplex those who desire to be in control. Let’s take the first two to illustrate.
“[There is] a time to be born, and a time to die.” We weren’t in control of the time of our arrival, and we won’t be in control of the time of our departure.
“[There is] a time to plant, and a time to pluck [harvest].” We can plant, and we can harvest, but we don’t control when we do it because crops grow and are harvested in certain seasons; a cycle that is beyond our control.
It’s a banner day when you realize that you are not in charge, but that you don’t need to be, because God is.
Whatever season you are in, God is in control.
