I know your works.
—Revelation 2:2
In the second and third chapters of Revelation, the Lord addresses seven letters to seven first-century churches. To each he says, “I know your works” (2:2, 9, 13, 19; 3:1, 8, 15 NKJV). The accounts are historical: written to real churches, in real places, composed of real people.
Think about it! He knows everything about your church. Everything! Are you okay with that, or does it leave you queasy?
He also knows everything about every person on every pew. Even those closest to you know you only partially. “Who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them?” (1 Cor 2:11).
But God knows all: “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar” (Ps 139:1–2).
A sobering reality: “I know your works.”
