How God Reveals Himself

The heavens declare the glory of God.
                        —Psalm 19:1

In Psalm 19, God is revealed as Creator (vv. 1–6), Law Giver (vv. 7–10), and Redeemer (vv. 11–14).

God’s general revelation (vv. 1–6) is the witness of nature, made to all people everywhere: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. . . . their voice goes out into all the earth.”

God’s special revelation (vv. 7–10) is the witness of his Word: It refreshes the soul, makes wise the simple, and gives joy to the heart.

God’s personal revelation (vv. 11–14) is the witness of the individual: “Forgive my hidden faults . . . and willful sins.” “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”

God’s revelation of himself
