By the grace of God I am what I am.
—1 Corinthians 15:10
My sister, Jeanette, was valedictorian of her high school class—a straight-A brain. Four years later, I attended the same school and had the same teachers. Gulp! I had a hunch that in the teachers’ lounge they were shaking their heads and saying, “That’s Jeanette’s brother?!” Clearly, something had short-circuited the gene sequence.
The cover of the monthly AARP magazine always irks me because it invariably features a high-profile celebrity. I fret about the thousands of readers who yearn to be like that person but never will be.
It’s frustrating to want to be something you’re not. God didn’t make you to be like someone else. He made you to be you. He doesn’t need two of you. But he does need you.
Nix the comparisons. Be authentic. You’re the only you God has.
Just be you!
