The first ingredient of love in 1 Corinthians 13 is patience (v. 4). The New Century Version gift-wraps and puts a bow on it in verse 7: “Love patiently accepts all things.” The Greek meaning of “accepts all things” is to “cover with a roof.” A roof covers and protects your home.
Similarly, you need a roof of patience to cover and protect your relationships.
If you’re married, you married a sinner—and so did your spouse (Rom 3:10, 23). Two imperfect people can’t build a perfect, irritation-proof marriage.
Nobody gets it right 100 percent of the time. Don’t hold someone’s feet to the fire for every mistake or annoyance. Cut them some slack; let some things slide.
“Accept each other just as Christ has accepted you” (Rom 15:7).
We all have flaws.
Just in different areas.
