In his April 3, 1965, broadcast, the late Paul Harvey said, “In times like these, it’s helpful to remember that there have always been times like these.”

Harrowing happenings have us on edge. Modern media feeds us the news in real-time, technology unavailable to earlier generations.

On September 22,1862, President Abraham Lincoln announced the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that on January 1, 1863, slaves “within any State” would be free. It took two and a half years for that news to reach Texas, on June 9, 1865.

Annihilate anxiety with the promise of a spiritual Emancipation Proclamation: “We are made right in God’s sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins” (Rom 3:22 NLT).

Defeat fear with faith.
