The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
—Philippians 4:7
Jesus said, “My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” (Jn 14:27).
The peace the world gives is temporary. Hundreds of peace treaties have been ratified; few, if any, of them have been kept.
And the peace the world gives is situational: good finances, good marriage, good kids, good health.
God’s peace is neither temporary nor situational. It’s a peace “which surpasses all understanding.” In other words, you can be at peace when there is no obvious reason why you should be.
When God walks into a room, it is transformed. If there are rooms in your heart that are inhabited by anxiety and agitation, you haven’t permitted God to enter them. Invite him into them, and you are on your way to a peace that is neither temporary nor situational.
Invite him into your room.
