Goal Setting

We should make plans—
counting on God to direct us.
        —Proverbs 16:9 TLB

There’s a vast genre of books and workshops on goal setting, covering everything from sales goals, corporate goals, private business goals, and personal goals.

A basic ingredient is the time dimension: My goal is to get to this level by this date, and here are the steps (intermediate goals) to get me there.

In addition to activity goals, consider setting some character goals. In other words, goals for what you want to be, not just goals for what you want to do.

How do you want to be different this time next year? What character traits do you need to work on to get there? God will honor a goal like that and help you reach it: “Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths” (Prv 3:6 NLT).

Commit to something today that you’ll be
grateful you did a year from today.
