A True Friend

A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for adversity.
                —Proverbs 17:17

A true friend is …

Tolerant. He avoids passing judgment; is tolerant of flaws and failures.

Unselfish. She is not self-centered; does not have to be the focus of attention. With her it’s not always me, me, me; it’s more often you, you, you.

Concerned. He delights in the victories and agonizes in the defeats of his friend. “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep” (Rom. 12:15).

Loyal. She never gives cause for one to lament: “my friends have forgotten me … those I love have turned against me” (Job 19:14, 19).

No one is special to everyone,
but everyone is special to someone.
