Five Days of Prayer – Day 5
It is God who works in you to will and
to act according to his good purpose.
—Philippians 2:13
Dear God,
Sometimes I don’t want to do your will.
But I want to want to.
Sometimes I don’t want to do what I know you want me to do.
But I want to want to.
Sometimes I don’t want to give up my sins.
But I want to want to.
What I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. … I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing (Rom. 7:15, 18-19).
O God, deliver me from divided loyalty and weak resolve … give me an uncompromised, undiluted desire to do good and avoid evil.
Amen.
Sin is not wrong because it makes you feel bad;
it makes you feel bad because it is wrong.
