Thieves of Peace

My peace I give you.
      —John 14:27

When Jesus told his disciples he would soon leave them, he said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. . . . Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (Jn 14:27)

After his crucifixion, those disciples were huddled in isolation, having experienced the three worst days of their lives. They were troubled and terrified. Jesus suddenly appeared and said, “Peace be with you!” (Jn 20:19).

You, my friend, have every reason to be at peace. Jesus is alive! The peace of his presence is yours every minute of every day.

Fear and worry are robbers of your peace. They hijack your brain, replacing your trust in him with the expectation of approaching adversity.

His promise of peace cannot be yours until you quit anticipating the future with fear and worry.

Peace within regardless
of what’s happening without.
