Your Waiting Father

[God] is patient with you, not wanting anyone
to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
                                   —2 Peter 3:9

Looking back on my life, I am astonished by God’s patience. He has gently waited for me to learn from my mistakes, amend my wayward ways, acknowledge my helplessness, and accept his grace.

God’s compassion comes with a big helping of patience. Israel repeatedly aroused his wrath by their disobedience. And he repeatedly gave them time to repent. “The Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you” (Is 30:18).

And today? “Do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?” (Rom 2:4).

Eventual judgment is certain. But in the meantime, he folds his arms and taps his foot, waiting for you to recognize your need for him.

God is waiting on you.
