All the disciples deserted him and fled.
—Matthew 26:56
On their trek to Gethsemane, Jesus told his disciples, “Tonight all of you will desert me” (Mt 26:31). Peter insisted that he wouldn’t—“And all the other disciples said the same” (Mt. 26:35).
But when the mob arrested Jesus, they all “deserted him and fled.”
Their desertion was a lapse of loyalty, but Jeus knew it was temporary.
In his post-resurrection appearance to the women who had come to the tomb, he said, “Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me” (Mt. 28:10).
My brothers! He didn’t berate those who deserted him and ran for the hills when trouble came. Tell my brothers we will meet for a happy rendezvous.
If you falter in faithfulness, refuse to let it be a permanent breach.
Stand tall. Make a new start.
