Psalm 51 is another of David’s penitential chants.
David’s tawdry balcony and bedroom misbehavior is disturbing, disappointing, and disgusting.
Could God forgive and use a person of such reprehensible conduct? He could, he did—and he still does.
Adopt David’s plea as your own: “Have mercy on me, O God . . . according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.” (Ps 51:1).
If you ever think you have been too bad for God to forgive and too soiled for God to use, think again. Your sins, whatever they may be, do not put you beyond the reach of God’s grace.
Confronted by his misdeeds, David said, “I have sinned.” The immediate response of God’s spokesman was, “The Lord has taken away your sin” (2 Sam 12:13).
God delights to show mercy (Micah 7:18)
