Comparisons Are Toxic

When they compare themselves by
one another, they do not show good sense.
               —2 Corinthians 10:12

Once-a-year marathoners are smart enough not to compare themselves with runners from Kenya.

Comparisons—on any turf—are toxic.

If you’re at the top and compare yourself to those below you, the result is an arrogant feeling of superiority.

If you’re at the bottom and compare yourself to those above you, the result is a humiliating feeling of inferiority.

If you’re in the middle-of-the-pack and compare yourself to those above and below you, the result is a debilitating feeling of insignificance.

Comparisons with others dead-end in feelings of superiority, inferiority, or insignificance—none of which square with God’s appraisal of you.

God made you who you are and put you in a position no one else can fill: no one is above you, and no one is below you.

Celebrate being one of a kind.
